2 Sept 2017
So, this week has gone by fast. It really hasn't been that long, because last time I emailed was Monday.
We had a few fun things go on this week. On Tuesday, we visited this less active member who is coming back really strong right now. His name is Buntawe. So, we go to his house and he totally surprised us with this lunch he prepared. I was taco pizza. It tasted really good. It was just this weird fusion of Mexican/Italian/Lao/and American food all wrapped up into one item. That was a fun visit.
On Thursday, we traveled to Udorn after English class and on Friday we did a companion exchange with the Zone Leaders. I was with Elder Santeco. It was a fun switch off and we got some good proselyting in.
Today has been a lot of fun. We visited a few members up north and as we got to the last house, they took us out to this reservoir. So, we spend a lot of the day hanging out with this awesome family and enjoying some good hot dry weather and having a nice Lao picnic.
In answer to your question, I would say that about 5% of the houses in Laos have hot water. Granted it is always hot here, so the tap water isn't too bad. The 5% that have it, only have it for showers, not for washing clothes or anything. Lucky for us, both of the places I have stayed at have had hot water for the showers. We are moving houses soon because there are new Elders coming in this week and only one of the two showers has hot water. It would be really hard to have four people shower from one bathroom and get ready before eight so I volunteered already to take the non-hot water shower.
In answer to your question about practicing the piano to play in church every week, I don't really get to practice at all. Most of the songs we sing are set now so they don't change. We also do sing one or two random songs every week. I still don't play that well. But nobody else at church has any idea how to play, so I don't get any heat if I mess up. I do miss sitting down and singing sometimes. It was funny a few weeks ago I was needed to play the piano for Sacrament Meeting and I was also needed to translate the meeting for the English speakers in the audience and I was giving a talk. Something was also going on so Elder Saunders was not free. So, the whole meeting I was just running back and forth from the piano to the translating table to the podium. It was stressful and tiring.
Well, that is all for this week. I don't have that much time. Good news this week. We are getting two new Elders, so it is going to jump up to four Elders here in Laos.
